The rules for Red Dog are pretty straightforward.   The player is dealt a total of three cards in Red Dog and if the last card fits numerically between the first two, the player wins.  The payout is based on the spread between the first two cards.  For instance, if a player was dealt a 5 and a 7, the spread would be 1, and when the player was dealt a 6 as their third card, they would win at 5:1 odds.  As the spread gets bigger, the payout gets smaller, with a spread of 2 being 4:1, 3 being 2:1 and a spread of 4 or more yielding 1:1 odds. 

If there is no spread for the first two cards dealt, for example getting a King and Ace dealt, then it is considered a push and the player’s bet is returned to them. 

Getting the 11:1 odds requires getting a three of a kind and the payout odds are only on the initial bet.  If the third card is different than the first two, it is considered a push and the bets are given back to the player. 

How to Play a Hand of Red Dog

A hand of Red Dog starts with the player or players placing an initial bet before their two cards are dealt out called an ante.  After the first two cards are dealt, the player can choose to increase their bet based on the two cards they already have or they can continue without upping the bet for the third card.  If a player gets two matching cards, they automatically skip the raise and get dealt their third card.  After the player or players have raised, the third card is dealt out.  Payouts are paid based on the total bet amount.
